Home » About Laafi » Funding

In order to finance our projects, we require funds. However, we believe that an interaction with developing countries based solely on compassion will not work. As a matter of respect for both donors and recipients we want to establish a relationship of consent, based not on pity but on understanding of problems.

Therefore, we also want to model our activities such, that they are attractive not only because of the good cause - this can be a positive side-effect, but not at the centre. Apart from that, all monetary and other donations are of course always warmly welcomed...

If you would like to be kept regularly informed about our activities, please send us an Email or postcard and we will add you to our mailing list.

Calendar

Each year, LAAFI publishes a calendar featuring the most enthralling pictures from the project communities. You are most welcome to order a copy by Email. Furthermore, Südwind shops around Vienna will stock the calendar from November onwards.

African Crafts

From our trips to Burkina Faso we regularly bring home a plethora of African Crafts such as sculptures, masks and jewellery. These can be acquired at our events or through this website - as long as stocks last. All revenues will be used for project funding.

Events

We try to make our events in Austria as varied and interesting as possible. They shall be attractive and entertaining for a diverse audience, young and old. Up to now, we have succeeded in organising a variety of attractions:

  • June 2000: Mamadou Diabaté The young musician from Bobo Dioulassou, the musical capital of Burkina Faso played the balaphone, drums and a local string instrument.

  • October 1999: Éspérance François Bulayumi The congolese author Éspérance François Bulayumi, currently education secretary at the AAI in Vienna, read extracts from his book 'Sina - the Congo Destiny".

  • September 1997: Viennese Evening The young Austrian actor Boris XXX read - supported by a Hungarian Gipsy band - charming texts by Viennese poet Joseph Weinheber.

  • December 1994: Punch Stall
During Advent 1994, LAAFI ran a punch stall in front of Vienna University. Our brew obviously found many aficionados among the near frozen passers-by as we sold all our stock within four days.

    Car

The transfer of the vehicle from Austria to Burkina Faso was not only an adventure for all those involved but also a successful event broadcast on the Internet. The drivers were equipped with a notebook, a digital camera and a satellite phone and send daily despatches and photos to Austria. Here, these reports were published on the website of the Internet Portal surfEU and could thus be accessed by a broad audience. The report has since been taken from the original website but can still be viewed on Helge's privat homepage, who was one of the drivers at the time.

    Sponsors and Supporters

    Investkredit Bank AG
Investkredit Bank AG, Austria's leading bank for corporates, annually donates a fixed amount of the distributable profits to charitable causes. In December 2001, Investkredit supported LAAFI with a generous donation from these funds. We would like to thank the bank's staff and board for their support.

    Oesterreichische Nationalbank
We would like to thank the Austrian National Bank for a generous donation to our projects in December 2001.

    Trenka Eucarbon
In December 2000, the Austrian firm Trenka Eucarbon donated all funds earmarked for promotional Christmas presents to LAAFI. Instead, Trenka's customers and business partners received a letter with the description of the project which would benefit from this initiative. We would like to thank Michaela Kamler for this innovative idea and hope that initiative find multiple imitators.

    United Nations Women's Guild
United Nations Women's Guild is an independent charity and funds projects benefiting children under 15. With the support of UNWG, LAAFI was able to initiate a sensitisation and education project, carrying important messages about schooling, hygiene and HIV prevention into remote villages in Burkina Faso by means of puppet theatre. We would like to thank UNWG for the kind support to this important project.
